TotalBodyIQ includes outdoor GPS for run, walk and cycle, heart-rate tracking with zones, and Apple Health connection on the free tier — Pro is not required for these. GPS recording needs location permission. Live heart rate needs a compatible source (for example a compatible Bluetooth monitor) or available Apple Health heart-rate data with permission. Zones are shown as age-based percentages of estimated maximum heart rate: Z1 Recovery 50–60%, Z2 Base 60–70%, Z3 Aerobic 70–80%, Z4 Threshold 80–90%, Z5 Max 90–100% (per site — verify). Apple Health can import supported body measurements (site: latest recorded weight and body-fat percentage) and supply available heart-rate readings where supported. This page is a setup and troubleshooting guide, not a medical manual.
What you get free for cardio + Health
On Free (long term — see Free vs Pro):
- GPS run, walk and cycle with route, distance and pace/speed
- Heart rate and Z1–Z5 zones with a compatible source
- Apple Health connection for supported measurements and available HR data
- Strength logging and Body Metrics (maps, balance, readiness, weekly load) in the same app — hybrid overview
Pro is not required for GPS, HR/zones or Health.
GPS setup
- Download TotalBodyIQ Muscle Map & Log on iPhone
- Start an outdoor Run, Walk or Cycle session
- Grant location permission when prompted (or enable later in iPhone Settings → TotalBodyIQ → Location)
- Record the session outdoors for a clearer track; review distance and pace afterwards
Exact Settings labels change by iOS version — confirm wording at publish time.
Common GPS fixes
- Permission off — enable Location for TotalBodyIQ in iPhone Settings
- Precise Location — if iOS offers it, turn Precise Location on for better outdoor tracks
- Started indoors — move outdoors before expecting a stable route; poor indoor signal thins the track
- Restart the session — if the track failed to start, stop and begin again with permission confirmed
- Keep advice generic — stick to GPS modes the product documents
If permissions look correct but tracking still fails, email support@totalbodyiq.co.uk with device model, iOS version and what happened.
Heart rate setup
Live heart rate needs a compatible source:
- A compatible Bluetooth heart-rate monitor, or
- Available Apple Health heart-rate data with permission
During training you can review live BPM and zone-training context (current zone, average HR, time in zones — confirm exact UI labels in the current app).
Common HR fixes
- Confirm the monitor is charged and in pairing range
- Check Bluetooth is on and the monitor is connected
- Grant Health permissions if you rely on Health HR data
- Remember “compatible source” is product-defined — do not publish an unverified brand list
- Apple Watch role: App Store may list Watch compatibility — confirm what the Watch app actually does before claiming live HR/GPS on Watch
Heart-rate zones are effort context, not a clinical test. Seek medical advice for concerning symptoms during exercise.
Heart-rate zones (Z1–Z5)
Per TotalBodyIQ site. Based on age-based estimated maximum heart rate, not a lab threshold:
| Zone | Name | % of estimated max HR |
|---|---|---|
| Z1 | Recovery | 50–60% |
| Z2 | Base | 60–70% |
| Z3 | Aerobic | 70–80% |
| Z4 | Threshold | 80–90% |
| Z5 | Max | 90–100% |
Use zones to understand effort distribution across sessions. They do not replace coaching or clinical guidance.
Apple Health connection
- Open Health permissions from TotalBodyIQ (confirm in-app path at publish)
- Choose what to share — you stay in control
- Import supported body measurements where recorded — site examples: weight and body-fat percentage
- Allow available heart-rate readings where supported
Only the Health data types listed on the site and in-app permissions are claimed.
Strength + cardio in one app
Hybrid athletes can lift and run in the same free app: strength Body Metrics stay available beside GPS history. See strength logging and GPS running in one app. Maps, balance and readiness stay free — muscle map · readiness.
Do runs change the muscle map? Treat strength logs as the main driver of body maps and balance.
Specialist run apps may go deeper on segments and social; pure gym loggers may be thinner on outdoor GPS. TotalBodyIQ’s wedge is hybrid strength + GPS + zones + Health on a lasting free tier — not a claim of superior GPS accuracy versus Strava or Watch-native Workout without evidence. Light comparison: vs Hevy / Strong / Fitbod.
Privacy and permissions
You choose Location, Bluetooth and Health permissions. Review them anytime in iPhone Settings. Link the live privacy policy from the site footer at publish. For account or tracking issues, use /support.html.
When to contact support
Email support@totalbodyiq.co.uk when:
- Location / Health / Bluetooth permissions look correct but tracking still fails
- Zones or Health imports do not match what you expect after a permissions check
Include: device model, iOS version, TotalBodyIQ version if known, and what you tried. Only claim a support response-time window (for example “within 24 hours”) if that wording is still on /support.html at publish.
